Online or telephone sessions are 50 minutes in duration and the cost is £50.

I work Monday to Saturday and some evenings.
I offer flexibility for the day and times of each of your sessions. You might be busy, you might not be able to commit to the same day and time each week. I can work with you to find the best day and times for each of your sessions.

I offer long term therapy that is open ended-suitable for exploring your past and how it affects the present, giving you time and space to explore your difficulties and make positive changes in your life......OR
I offer solution focused brief therapy. It is short term therapy of 6-8 sessions that focuses on helping you find/build solutions- so it less about the past but about your difficulties in the present and helping you to find a better way forward.
It is therefore goal oriented, collaborative and future focused.

If you are not sure what is right for you just ask, you can message me, or we can have a chat by telephone.

Payment for each session is by bank transfer or PayPal.

Payment is due at the time of booking to secure your day and time.

I work with: relationship difficulties, fertility issues, miscarriage, bereavement, challenging emotions, life events and changes, low mood, self esteem, low confidence, depression. I also specialise in anxiety difficulties.

What to expect when you first contact me:

You may have contacted me on my website or by email louisehalfordcounselling@outlook.com  Either way I will contact you as soon as possible to answer any questions you might have and provide you with more information.

What to expect in your first session

  • You can share whatever feels comfortable about you and what difficulties you are having, you can ask me any questions. Sessions are always at your pace and always your content.

  • I may ask you some questions in order to gain an understanding of you and how you are struggling right now. This is to help me to understand how your difficulties are affecting you. I will find out what your goals are in therapy so that we can keep these in sight for future sessions.

Ongoing sessions

In your sessions you can explore your difficulties at your pace, in as much or as little detail that you are comfortable with. You are always in control of the session content and pace.

You can start your session with what feels right for you. There is no right or wrong way in therapy

  • Sessions will allow you the space to explore your feelings and thoughts and for you to explore these in more detail.

  • At times we will review the sessions to see how you feel therapy is going and what we need to explore or focus on in future sessions to reach your therapy goals. This is to keep us on track and for you to have a sense of therapy progress.

Counselling sessions are a personal investment and you may wish to consider if you can commit to regular sessions. An ad-hoc approach to counselling has benefits but proves to be a slow and less effective method of progress.

We are all different therefore I do not prescribe a set amount of sessions. Everyone is different. In long term therapy you and I will know when it is time to end. In short term therapy the sessions are usually set at 6-8 sessions.

Some sessions will feel more helpful than others, but it is important to realise that everything that I am doing is designed to help you in the long run, even if doesn't feel like it in the beginning.

Somewhere within you can be the solution to resolving your problem.

It's my skill to help people discover things that hamper their own solutions and help people discover a better way forward.

You will leave counselling independent of me which is the aim of counselling, and this is more powerful than a therapist telling you what to do, and you leave feeling that you are able to find your own solutions.
