What to expect in your first session
-
I will welcome you and invite any questions you may have.
-
I may ask you some questions in order to gain an understanding of you and how you are struggling right now.
What symptoms are you experiencing? This is to help me understand how your baby loss is affecting you, both physically and psychologically
What do you hope to gain from therapy? This is so I can gain an understanding of what you want to achieve and explore how we might work together to achieve this.
Ongoing sessions
In your sessions you can explore your difficulties at your pace, in as much or as little detail that you are comfortable with. You are always in control of the session content and pace.
I will invite you to start each session with what feels right for you in that moment, or with what content you would like to talk about in this session
-
Sessions will allow you the space to explore your feelings and thoughts and for you to explore these in more detail.
-
There will be times when we review the sessions to see how you feel therapy is going, or to discuss whether or not you have found methods helpful and how you would like future sessions to pan out.
-
At the end of each session we will discuss a future session day and time.
Counselling sessions are a personal investment and you may wish to consider if you can commit to regular sessions. An ad-hoc approach to counselling has benefits but proves to be a slow and less effective method of progress.
We are all different therefore I do not prescribe a set amount of sessions as it depends upon the work being undertaken, it is often the case that counselling varies in the amount of sessions wanted or needed.
Some sessions will feel more helpful than others, but it is important to realise that everything that I am doing is designed to help you in the long run, even if doesn't feel like it in the beginning.
Somewhere within you can be the solution to resolving your problem.
It's my skill to help people discover things that hamper their own solutions and help people discover a better way forward.
You will leave counselling independent of me which is the aim of counselling, and this is more powerful than a therapist telling you what to do, and you leave feeling that you are able to find your own solutions.
